Manikdoh Dam

The Junnar taluka of Pune district has total four dams in it. Manikdoh is one of them. It is situated at the north-west region of Junnar city. In order to reach Manikdoh, we have to get into Junnar first and them to the Manikdoh, which is about 10 kilometers away from there. 

Manikdoh Dam

It is second largest dam in this region after Pilpalgaon Joge. Manikdoh is situated in geography surrounded by the Sahyadri ranges. It is actually on the edge of Konkan area. Geographically we can find this is the region where Konkan starts. The view of the Manikdoh is actually like a Konkan. The dam is built on the river of Kukdi. This river is also known as the lifeline of Junnar and Parner talukas in Maharashtra. Kukdi originated in farther areas of Kukadeshwar and flows through Manikdoh dam. The dam is completely surrounded by Sahyadri ranges. It has four forts from Satavahan period. These were used in the period of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji also. The forts are Shivneri, Hadsar, Chawand and Jivdhan. The Shivneri is well known for the birth place of founder of Maratha Empire. Remaining three forts are not well known because in very less occasion their names had appeared in the history. Chawand and Hadsar are actually situated on the banks of Manikdoh dam. From here a beautiful scenario of Sahyadri ranges can be seen. Visiting this place in monsoon is just like visiting the heaven in the state of Maharashtra. We can see a lot of greeneries and sprinkles of rain falling on it!

Actual views of nature are found in the areas of Manikdoh dam. It is surrounded by various small villages. Not a single house in the villages is built by concrete. Nature puts all of its effort in monsoon to make this place as a heaven. Waterfalls falling from the top of the mountain is nature’s one of the beautiful scenery all the time here. The ancient Naneghat is also situated after the Manikdoh dam. It is nearly 15 kilometers away from this place. Maharashtra’s this region is affected by free Leopards. State’s only Leopard sanctuary in also situated here. It is also on the banks of Manikdoh dam. Visiting this complete place in not possible within one day. Because, we cannot leave the place without completely looking into the glory of the nature. But once in the life do visit here either in monsoon or in the winter season.
